From the Culture
A street-side interview series that explores voters’ motivations based on their cultural subscriptions in Michigan, a longtime swing state. Edit: These interviews were conducted before President Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 Presidential Election.
We took to the street to learn if identity influenced voting decisions by hearing from a community of voters. Over 130+ people were interviewed across Michigan, from Ann Arbor to Kalamazoo to Detroit.
Insights
People are upset about their voting choices. They want a good choice; they do not want to choose between “the lesser of two evils.”
Identity influences voting patterns. Can culture be a predictor of voting patterns better than polling?
Impact
People need to feel unified; they need to feel like their voices (their votes) matter so we can create change in the United States. In a divisive country, voters need to find power in choice, power in the opportunity of change, and enact that change.
Positive engagement with the video content franchise across platforms (TikTok and Instagram) on @marctothec. Increased dialogue around the election in comments sections. Edit: Franchise was retired once Vice President Kamala Harris replaced President Joe Biden in the 2024 Presidential Election.
